ha ha ha!!! she was just four or five years old. bored looking through the window, she found me an interesting subject, seeing me in contortions trying to suppress a sneeze. she smiled. then she started involuntarily counting my sneezes, folding her fingers one after the other. i corrected her when she folded the eighth finger instead of keeping the count at seven when i successfully suppressed a sneeze, but she counted it as a whole sneeze. from then on we were friends for the rest of the journey from Trivanandrum to Ernakulam in the Parasuram Express on Sunday.
Kalpana, i wrote it to show you to the level i can what a haiku is. this one is a tolerably good haiku though not something to shout from the rooftop about. haiku is not to be learned at the theoretical level. it is more of a way of looking at life than placing words in a precise and beautiful formation of 5-7-5 beats. keep on reading Basho, Issa and Buson. you have innocence that is poetry. learn the angle from which to zoom your camera and also the craft, reading the masters.
